APPLE Seed

Chairman - Patty Cole

Co-Chairman - Marci Stracener

The APPLE in APPLE Seed stands for Alternative Programs Providing Learning Experiences.  We are planting the seeds to grow ready readers!

The APPLE Seed Welfare Service Project provides volunteers to teach emergent readers in a one-on-one thirty minute session, two to three times a week at the Kindergarten Center.  Teachers identify children who have trouble reading printed symbols but are otherwise verbal and artistic kids.

Objects are used to teach the sound that a letter makes.  The child is also taught to write that letter in a sand tray so he/she can imprint the letter and sound into their brain.  The children are taught by hearing, saying, seeing and feeling the letters/words.

The APPLE Seed project strives to assist these children with their reading difficulties before low self esteem becomes an issue.
